I've had the pleasure of watching benson from the beginning of his career and have been awed by his growth and skills as both a designer and a showman of his fashion. His fearless attitude toward risk and experimentation is evidenced by the wide variety of influences on his collections, the launch of his own company Mange La Mode, and decades of extravagant spectacles going way above and beyond anything done on the New York City fashion show runway, culminating in his own weekly club night and fashion revue at the prestigious State Theater in Detroit and his own store in New Orleans. He has launched collections in Detroit, Manhattan, New Orleans, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin successfully. He dares to keep his sights firmly on the heights while his feet assuredly scale them.

I had the delight of modeling one of his creations on stage for him. It was a dress that clung to and outlined all the right places while minimizing and glossing over all the wrong ones, very sexy in a mature way, with a hood that added just a hint of womanly mystery to the wearer. In no way did it impede the choreography to which I danced and swirled and made me feel very special, which is an attribute that all of his clothing shares.
